The Smokehouse is located on the banks of Theewaterskloof Dam just outside of Villiersdorp. I am also Vice President of the Villiersdorp Tourism Association and we would have come up with a fantastic cultural and gastronomic day trip experience that your tour company would love to promote! We call it The Overberg Ramble. We have already had one tour group of 60 people, from which we got amazing feedback!

Villiersdorp, also known as the “Pearl of the Overberg”, is a tranquil village graced by oak trees and surrounded by fruit and wine farms. The village is in a valley surrounded by the picturesque Waterval - and Baviaans mountains and lies next to the magnificent Theewaterskloof Dam, South Africa’s 7th largest dam.

Villiersdorp is situated just an hour away from Cape Town, which makes it an accessible and easy day trip out. There are many interesting things to see in and around the area. This is an example of the proposed itinerary:

1: We arrive at Kelkiewyn Restaurant for a light breakfast and a wander around the lovely surroundings and farm stall. The Kelkiewyn Restaurant & Farm Stall is situated on the banks of the Elands River. Seating is available under the trees on the river bank, or in the air conditioned interior of the restaurant, wonderfully heated by the fire place in winter.

2: After Breakfast we wonder over to the Villiersdorp Tractor Museum, South Africa’s only tractor museum, where each machine is remarkably in perfect working order. Here we learn the history of these vintage Tractor’s, their significance in the area, as well as enjoy a drive with a difference on the tractor trailor through the town.

3: We then head off to the Helderstroom Alpacas to watch a demo of fibre being spun on traditional spinning wheels At Helderstroom Alpacas, Christopher and Alison Notely breed the noble and aristocratic alpacas, shear their fibre annually and turn it into top of the range handknit and totally organic fashion wear.

4: We then head on over to the Cape Pride Protea Farm where we learn about the Growing, History and Export of Protea’s worldwide. The flowers are natural hybrids that were found growing in the wild. They are now cultivated using the latest technology and plant protection methods to ensure internationally accepted quality control standards.

5: And then we will continue on to the Aphrodisiac Shack  for lunch, take a tour of the smokery and browse in the Deli. The Aphrodisiac Shack smokery is built on the bank of the Theewaterskloof Dam and is set in an exquisite and tranquil setting. We smoke cheese, chicken, olive oils and various other products by hand in the age old tradition. Our deli holds a range of fabulous and unique culinary delights not found anywhere else.

6:
From here we will go to the Dale Elliot Art Studio for a tour around the Gallery and art workshop . Dale and Janny Elliot have a state-of-the-art Studio and Art Complex, incorporating a gallery, a framing section and a superbly appointed teaching studio for their Art Workshops

7: We then head off to Betko Fruit packers to learn more about “The Journey of the Apple”. Betko Fresh Produce is one of South Africa’s leading apple and pear packers and exporters and the company supplies leading customers around the world. Betko Fresh Produce is owned by the Groenewald family, and sources its produce mainly from the Vyeboom-Villiersdorp and the Riviersonderend regions of South Africa’s Western Cape province.

Please note that this is only a guideline, and is flexible according to the wants and needs of the clients concerned. I look forward to hearing from you!

Kind Regards,
